Weekend in Sevilla

I spent the past weekend in Sevilla, Spain. It's about 6 hours south of Madrid. We left early Friday morning and on our way down we stopped in Córdoba to visit la Catedral. It was kind of interesting but I don't really like museums that much. The best thing about being in Southern Spain is that it is much warmer. There are also orange and palm trees everywhere; it was really refreshing.

We arrived to Sevilla late on Friday. We stayed at the Hotel Fernando III in the middle of Old Sevilla. My room had a really nice balcony and we slept with the door open because it was so nice out. On Saturday, we got lunch outside in the sun and walked around all afternoon. We spent a lot of time in the Plaza de Espana. There were also a lot of really pretty gardens to walk through. It was about 20ºC that day which is perfect for walking around in just a sweatshirt.

On Sunday we went to a little town called Jerez to visit the Gonzalez Byass bodega (winery). This place, Tio Pepe, is famous for its sherries and brandies. We sampled a few of the sherries (which I did not like) and watched a horse show.

We headed home on Monday, which was difficult because it was rainy and cold in Madrid. Today was my first day of classes. Things are shaping up to be a pretty demanding semester because I'm taking a lot of 4 credit courses. I'm excited to get started though. My friend Allison got to Madrid on Sunday so I think she and I are going to meet up tomorrow or Friday.

Plenty of pictures to follow. They don't seem to be loading properly right now.
